Wishlist: MAC Cosmetics x Archie Comics

Jingle Jangle coin purse

With the MAC Cosmetics x Archie Comics collection launching within a couple of weeks (online launch: January 30th; in-store US launch: February 7th), I figured that I should probably make a wishlist for the items that I most covet from the collab. Although my heart is inclined toward the rich, vampy tones of the Veronica collection (obvi), I can't wait to check out a couple of the candy pink shades in the Betty collection in person.

However, the product that I'm most intrigued about is the Magic Spells pigment. I haven't really had too much experience with MAC pigments (aside from swatching them on my hand, really), but I feel like it would add something special to my daily routine of thick cat-eyed liner and scowls. I would love to get some feedback from anyone who regularly uses MAC pigments.

Check out my MAC x Archie wishlist after the cut~♡

Treasure Collection: Flicker Rings

Bat-manga Batman/Robin ring: gift from the Boyfriend Wonder

I've been collecting treasures* ever since I was a tiny Felon. While my collection of watches and Kewpie dolls dominates much of my Internet presence, one of my resolutions this year is to document all of my other treasures. I figure that this may help me sort out all of my dumb piles of pretty things, while sharing them with the world.

My fascination with flicker rings started when I spotted a handful of vintage Green Hornet lenticular rings at a convention a few years ago. I've always loved the aesthetic of lenticular and holographic images and stickers from when I was a child, however, these Green Hornet rings were way out of my price range. My flicker ring collection officially started with a pair of vintage Robin and Batwoman rings that my boyfriend got for me at Boston Comic Con. Since then, I've accumulated a handful of choice rings (both vintage and modern) featuring some of my favorite characters and icons. Most of them were acquired from conventions and eBay, at around $4-10 each.

two thousand thirteen

One of my resolutions this year is to start updating my blog regularly, so I'm aiming to update this at least two times a month (baby steps) and to fix up the layout of this site. As I might've stated before, the convenience of Twitter and Tumblr has lead me to become lazy when it comes to ~long form blogging~, which became apparent once the holiday season hit. So I'm sorry, Blogspot. I'm sorry that I've left you out of my social media slumber party. Let's be friends again.

Speaking of resolutions, we welcomed the new year with movies, Disney on Ice, Chinese food, and a friendship-ending round of Personal Preference. Since I haven't gone to Disney on Ice since the Monsters Inc on Ice show in 2004 (and due to my terrible case of post-Disneyland depression since September), I dragged Andrew & AK to the balcony seats at TD Banknorth Garden for 100 Years of Magic.

Turns out that Disney on Ice was nothing like Disneyland. However, both Andrew and AK got panic attacks during the segment for It's A Small World, so it was totally worth it. I already got tickets for Disney on Ice: Rockin' Ever After for my Galentine's Day date with AK next month, so this is my life now.

Some other things that are my life right now:
  • Conventions - I'm trying to finalize my convention schedule by the end of this upcoming week. Since a lot of people have asked me how I prepare for conventions (in regards to cosplay, travel, and budgets), I'm planning to put together my own guide to convention nonsense soon.
  • Weddings - I was recently recruited to be a bridesmaid for J'ai's Tangled-theme wedding. I haven't stopped screaming because princesses.
  • Regular Show - I've never really given this show a chance until I listened to the fundraiser episode of the Gravity Falls Gossiper, and now I care about this show a lot. Hm!
  • Chirashi - I usually don't order chirashi at Japanese restaurants, however I'm addicted to the chirashi bowl at B Cafe in Quincy, and now I want to eat this right now.
  • Lord of the Rings x Black Milk Clothing - Remember how a year ago, I had never watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies, and then I watched all of them in one sitting and then I cared a lot and now I'm pretty much ready to drop a few hundred $$$ on Lord of the Rings spandex? Yeah.
Anyway, I'll talk to you later, book. To recap, Finn is the one who is hot. I'll see you in the next chapter. BUMPS.

P.S. I also got this really dope cape from Urban Outfitters on super-sale for $30, so now I'm ready for winter time vigilantism.

a post about salem

A couple weekends ago, Jasmine (the third/Jerseyan honorary member of Les Villainettes) trekked to Boston to visit me & AK, and spooky adventures ensued. We spent most of the day stocking up on miscellaneous Halloween items and getting ready for the Comicazi Halloween Party.
Gogo, Mia, & Thor-nofrio
AK and I missed out on the Comicazi Halloween Party last year, so we were stoked to join in on festivities this time around, and Comicazi did not disappoint. There was tons of pizza and candy, the drinks were cheap, and all of our local Somervillain friends looked amazing in their costumes.

After we all held hands and skipped/stumbled back to AK's apartment, we ordered Chinese food and collapsed into a fit of giggles and passed out. On Sunday, we got dressed in our Sunday best and made our journey to Salem to partake in witch stuff. We spent a while looking at non-spooky wares at Harrison's Comics, ventured into various magic shops, visited a graveyard once it got dark, and eavesdropped on townies. We also stumbled upon Boner Way.

We also met up with Samantha, who was kind enough to take a photo with us.

Outfit details:
bow: handmade/Betty Felon
black sheer glitter dress: Urban Outfitters
black lace dress: ASOS
black motorcycle jacket: Forever 21
pentagram necklace: one of the witch shops in Salem
Sailor Moon star locket necklace: CircleRed
gold crossbody satchel: H&M
striped tights: eBay
saddle shoes: Payless

It started to get really spooky/cold in Salem, so we headed back to AK's HQ for one last sleepover before Jasmine had to ride her broom back to Jersey on Monday morning. Anyway, here are the magic treasures that I acquired over that weekend:

"Disneyland for the Dead" t-shirt;
Batman HeroClix (c/o Frank @ Comicazi);
black cat keychain from a store where AK got a sick dragon pen;
 Scooby Doo candy cigarette from the Comicazi party;
two Licca-chan gashapon.

In other news, how is it already November? Inquiring minds want to know.

a post about life and stuff

Oh, hey.

So I intended to blog about my new place (which I moved into before I even started this blog), my vacation in California (which was also a thing that happened before I started this blog), my birthday (which happened the day I started this blog), King Richard's Faire (which occurred sometime last month), New York Comic Con (three weeks ago), and our Les Villainettes weekend (last weekend, in fact!) but now it's almost the end of October so I'm going to post about this past weekend instead*.

I left work early on Friday to tend to a mini-disaster in the Robin's Nest**, but fortunately, everyone was safe and fine. We all decided to dress up and proceed with our Halloween party in the PM, as our fancy way of telling Death*** to fuck off.

Since I've been suffering from post-Disneyland depression for a little over a month now (and after working on a bunch of costumes this year), I dressed up/down as a retro Mousketeer (aka MY FEELINGS). After a night of mingling, G&Ts, and dicking around with the photobooth, AK (who was Blake Henderson for the night) & I listened to a couple episodes of The Gravity Falls Gossiper Podcast**** and passed out.

We woke up with a craving for hearty fried food, and discovered M3 in Davis Square, which served my dream breakfast at 3PM in the morning.
Chicken & biscuits and fried green tomatoes.

Randy met up with us while we ate the aforementioned food, and then worked on our master plans for the upcoming year, and then we met up with Ming & Neil and ate food again. Weekends, guys!

My weekend was extended due to Hurricane Sandy, which luckily only hit us with gusty winds and tons of rain. Regardless, with the MBTA shutting down at 2 PM, the city pretty much shut down for the day. In the morning, we met up with Sandy on the beach. After we faced the violent waters, I spent the rest of the day napping, eating ramen, and buying a lot of ridiculous things online.

Speaking of storms and online shopping, I received my Gemma Lister collar in the mail yesterday (c/o Fab) and discovered that UPS still delivers during hurricanes. I ended up getting the pearl velvet collar, which I can't wait to work into my Fall/Winter outfits.

Anyway, I hope the rest of you on the East Coast stayed safe and dry during Hurricane Sandy.

*I will recap the rest of my life, eventually.

***Don't worry, bb - I still love you.

****If you're a fan of Gravity Falls, it's imperative that you listen to this podcast.

What's In My Purse?: Beauty Essentials

I still have a billion photos to edit from my vacation in California and our trip to King Richard's Faire, but for now, a quick beauty post! Since people often inquire about my beauty essentials, here is my current line-up of cosmetics that I always keep in my purse:
  • Hard Candy Welcome Matte - Mattifying Translucent Pressed Powder
    I actually got this powder on a whim, since I needed something to set my makeup on the go (especially since some BB creams leave a bit of a dewy finish).
  • eos Smooth Sphere in Strawberry Sorbet
    At any given time, I always carry at least a couple tubes of lip balms with me. I usually use Nivea tinted lipbalm (in A Kiss of Cherry), but the consistency and flavor of this eos lipbalm is perfect for providing a bit of ice cream-flavored moisture throughout the day. Also, the round packaging reminds me of a Weeble, so that's totes cute or whatever.
  • e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit
    Real talk: I didn't really get in the habit of filling in my eyebrows until within the last year or so, despite the fact that I've regularly plucked and shaped my eyebrows since middle school. This affordable little kit is easy to use and provides great definition. (Side note: On the days when I'm a bit lazier with my makeup, I can just hide my stupidly sparse eyebrows under my bangs. Beauty tips! Lethargy!)
  • Tokyomilk Conditioning Lip Balm in Clove Cigarette
    Remember back in high school, how there was always that older, cooler kid who would never, ever be friends with you? This smells like that kid.
  • Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner in Ultra Black
    For conventions, special occasions, and photoshoots, I usually use L'Oreal gel eyeliner, which can feel a bit heavy on hot days (hiss!) and tired eyes (boo!). For daily wear, this Wet N Wild eyeliner is light and virtually budge-proof and I've quickly mastered how to apply my thick cat-eyed liner within a fraction of the time it usually takes for me to create the same effect with my gel liner. Plus, it's impervious to sweat (ew), rainstorms (yay), and hysterical One Direction crying fits. Truly, the perfect eyeliner for a quarter-life crisis.
  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam
    In conjunction with my compulsion to equip myself with a handful of lip balms, I always carry a red lip product in my purse as well (usually Revlon Lip Butter in "Candy Apple," Revlon ColorStay in "Ripened Red," or MAC Cosmetics "Wonder Woman"). I actually just purchased this NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream a couple weeks ago in LA, after seeing Darshana's review of the product and it's just lovely. I love the color/stain and texture of this product, and I've been wearing it almost everyday since I've returned to the East Coast.
  • Holika Holika Clearing Petit BB Cream
    This BB cream does wonders for my weird combination skin - it moisturizes, provides medium coverage, and protects my pale complexion from the sun (goth2death). Plus, there are cats on the packaging, so obviously.
What are your beauty essentials? I would love to hear your recommendations

Oh, hey.

After accidentally abandoning my Livejournal several years ago for Twitter and Tumblr, I figured that it's about time that I get back into documenting my life beyond snarky one-liners about how awesome/terrible I am and Instagramming evidence of my hoarding problem.

I have nothing else to say.
